Classes taught by Miss Mindy
Our Time - 18 months to 3 years encourages toddlers to uncover an engaging musical world while building confidence, self control, and communications skills. Singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, and object identification foster language skills, and creative movement to various musical “moods” develops a sense of balance, timing, and spatial awareness. Listening and turn taking encourage blossoming social skills. Our Time reflects the emotional foundations of school readiness and the latest research on music and early childhood development. Our Time is a wonderful way for parent and child to grow, bond, and learn while playing together.
Imagine That - ages 3 to 5, takes the preschooler on a musical journey of discovery and exploration…a journey limited only by the power of imagination. Pretend play activities are integrated with music, vocal development, storytelling, movement, and literature to capture the preschooler’s potential to learn and encourage cognitive and literacy skills, creativity, and individuality. Imagine That is designed for active, energetic, enthusiastic, and imaginative children ages 3 to 5. Classes encourage socialization, sharing, and participating in group activities. Singing becomes a focus for enhancing the preschooler's vocal development as expressive language is just beginning to emerge. The parent and child have fun participating together in the last 10 to 15 minutes of class during Sharing Time. The class provides home activities for the family to enjoy together throughout the week.
Kindermusik for the Young Child - ages 5 to 7 uses a small group approach to music education and provides a pressure-free class where a child can develop a strong musical foundation by learning the concepts, language, notation, and vocabulary of music and its greatest composers. The program is designed to prepare young children for traditional music lessons and help them develop the skills needed for music reading and playing an instrument. Authentic percussion, string, pre-keyboard and woodwind instruments expose children to the many choices for future musical study, and provide them with the opportunity to musically succeed before taking on more formal instruction. Parents or caregivers are encouraged to attend the last 10 to 15 minutes of class. Young Child classes last approximately 75 minutes. Children who participate in all four semesters of Young Child receive and learn to play a glokenspiel, two-stringed dulcimer and a recorder.
